Advice using pressure washer chemical.

Chemical, detergents and brushes can decrease the length of time it takes to complete a cleaning job and increase the effectiveness and longevity of your work.

Chemicals and detergents can only be run through your unit while the lance is set to low pressure. This is no problem if you are using a chemical bottle that attaches to the end of you gun as these are low pressure anyway, however if your pressure washer has a tank built into the body of your machine you will need to make sure your variable nozzle is set to low pressure this is usually done by pulling the end nozzle until it clicks, this will allow chemical to run through you lance without issue. If you have the small removable nozzles you will need to change it for the largest size, these are usually black in colour. Some commercial pressure washers with a built in header tank do not require a nozzle change as they are capable of applying high pressure chemical, although if your machine was under £1500 it is unlikely to have this function.

A great way to get the perfect deep clean is to use a wash brush or rotary brush (not to be confused with a patio cleaner) If you have a domestic machine with a built in tank, you can run chemical through your brush as these are usually low pressure. If you are using a chemical bottle, you can still use a brush, however you would need to apply the chemical with the bottle then swap it for the brush. Accessory brushes are especially effective when cleaning a car, motorbike, garden furniture or similar.

For the best all round results it is advisable to loosen any dirt or grime with just water first using the standard spray pattern then apply your chosen chemical,  let it rest for a few minutes in order to penetrate the dirt, but don’t let it dry. Finish by setting your machine back to high pressure using your standard lance again and rinsing with plain water.

There are a number of detergents available from chemical specially designed to clean you decking and patio to your garden furnitureand car it comes in concentrate (500ml makes 5ltrs) and dissolvable tabletform and is suitable for all brands of pressure washer. For commercial machines washing vans and trucks traffic film remover is great and comes in either caustic or non-caustic form.

It is important to never run bleach or other chemicals not designed for pressure washers through your machine as these could do damage to the seals, valves and other parts of your pressure washer.
